    MiniFlex training: General Scope

    This course addresses the basic operations in terms of hardware and software for the MiniFlex benchtop XRD instrument.  The training is based on hands-on solving of example problems in order to illustrate the possibility of multipurpose analytical instrument (MiniFlex) and analysis software SmartLab Studio II. Persons attending the training should expect to leave the course with a basic working knowledge of both the MiniFlex hardware and analysis software. Some of the specific topics covered are outlined below.

    Rigaku will provide the training notes and a course certificate.

    Persons attending the training are advised to have a personal computer with SmartLab Studio II software installed and software dongle / network license that is required to run the software.

    Who should attend

    Operators, engineers, research scientists and university students in university and operators of the MiniFlex diffractometer supplied by Rigaku.

    Registration is required. The number of places is limited.

    1. Introduction; basics of powder X-ray diffraction
    2. XRD Instrumentation
    3. Experimental XRD – MiniFlex 600
    4. Sample preparation
    14:00 – 17:00 5. Hands on MiniFlex I – practical basic usage
    a) installation of sample holders and sample stages 
    b) basic maintenance
    c) instrument control in SmartLab Studio II
    d) alignment and angle correction procedures
     
    Day 2
    9:00 – 12:00 6. Introduction to the Rietveld Method; Rietveld refinement, PONKCS
    14:00 – 17:00 7. Hands on MiniFlex II – practical usage
    a) Sample preparation in the laboratory
    b) measurement of test samples (strategies and techniques)
    c) application of XRF reduction mode 
    8. SmartLab Studio II introduction; basic and qualitative analysis - exercise
    9. SmartLab Studio II WPPF/Rietveld 
    10. SmartLab Studio II Comprehensive Analysis, Crystallinity, FP-Method
